A key component used in optical fiber local area network （LAN） is the single-mode fiber star coupler. This paper presents the technique for constructing such a novel reflective single-mlde fiber star coupler （made up of 2×2 couplers and optical fiber loops） and its characteristics. The dependence of reflectivity on the coupling performance for the optical fiber loop is analyzed theoretically. Finally

the experimental result of a newly fabricated reflective single-mode fiber 8 port star coupler is discussed.
