The paper consists o two parts. In the first part

it describes the improvement and development of the TDM based electronic transport network

with the synchronous digital hierarchy SDH as basis

together with WDM and EDFA along the optical fiber transmission lines. In the second part of the paper

it briefly explains the general architecture of WDM based optical transport networking technology

with all the network elements being optical.
