The high temperature softening property of quartz glass tube used in the field of optical fiber fabrication is studied. The high temperature status of different samples were observed with high temperature microscope. The contents of varied metal impurities and the OH ions were measured respectively. The factors influencing the high temperature softening properties of quartz glass are discussed in detail. The suggestions for improving the quality of China—made quartz glass tubes are proposed.
