The effect of dispersion on normalized throughput of multi-wavelength optical code-division multiple-access(MW OCDMA) system is analyzed. The smaller the chip width of optical pulse is
the more serious the dispersion effect is and the more greatly does the maximum normalized throughput of MW OCDMA decrease. The performance of MW OCDMA is compared to that of a wavelength-division multiple-access (WDMA) system after considering the effect of dispersion and multi-access interference. Analysis result shows that when load is small
WDMA has better performance. However
MW OCDMA has better performance than WDMA when load is large.
