A novel technique of tunable polarization mode dispersion (PMD) compensation based on fiber Bragg grating (FBG) is proposed. In this method
tunable linear chirp is introduced to a uniform fiber grating by magnetic field
while the central wavelength does not change. This all-fiber PMD compensation technique is cost-effective and flexible in achieving differential group delay (DGD). The result of numerical simulation on a 10 Gbit/s NRZ transmission system demonstrates a significant improvement in the eye pattern by employing the PMD compensator.
