This paper described the position and role of FTTH system in the communication network

its network architecture and required functions. For the FTTH network architecture

we compared many different schemes and proposed that differend network schemes must be adopted according to the concrete application environments. These schemes include FTTB optical network

point-to-point fiber-division scheme

point-to-poin active optical network

IEEE-based EPON system and IUT-T-based GPON system.
