The technology of plastic optical fiber （POF） is becoming increasinly mature

the application of POF is more and more broad too. In this paper

we introduced the performance of POF

discussed the feasibilities of several kinds of POF in building cabling

summarized the general situation of building cabling standards and POF standards

and finally analyzed the limitations of the current cabling standards and the urgency of establishment of POF standards.
