The life of optical fiber cables is determined by the life of their filling compounds and the fibers in them.In their long-term operations

they can hardly be immune from water and humidity

which affect the lives of both the fillings and the fibers.Therefore

the water immergence performance of the cable is one of the most important indexes in terms of its quality

and also an important item in assessing its environment characteristics and an important factor ensuring its life（25

0 years）.In this paper

we explore the impact of water immergence on the life of cables and the effective measures for minimizing such impact.
