This paper first briefly introduces the Ad Hoc network

then analyses the main differences between the Ad Hoc network and the existing communication systems in route selection

presents the classification of its routing protocols and introduces a few typical ones. Finally

it predicts the main orientations of the research on the Ad Hoc network protocols in the future.
