With highly-efficient digital signal processing capability
the Coherent Optical Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing(CO-OFDM)system is considered as a promising option for future 100Gbit/s high-rate optical transmissions. This paper analyzes the transmission mechanism and mathematical model of the Polarization Division Multiplexing(PDM)-based COOFDM technology and on this basis discusses a joint signal equalization algorithm for this system.Numerical simulation results verify that using this algorithm
the said system can effectively suppress the noise effects brought about by PDM
realizing the insensitive reception of the polarization signals.Specifically
the systemQvalue is lowered by only 0.3dB than the CO-OFDM system after 960 km single-mode fiber transmission without any polarization controller.
